In the flemish town of ransegem, mayor gaston van opstal has ruled the roost for seventeen years. In fact, he is the perfect mayor for his little town. But then disaster strikes. Six months before the municipal elections, the sleepy little town is shaken to its foundations and its inhabitants are dragged into a political quagmire. The lazy self-evidence of the local political arena degenerates into a ruthless electoral battle. Heartrending choices must be made between career and family, between self-interest and the best interests of the town. Who can predict what lengths people will go to when their ambitions are greater than their intelligence?
