Freddie Mercury, The Final Stage

For twelve years, peter freestone was the personal assistant to queen vocalist freddie mercury. He lived in with him and nursed him on his deathbed. In this documentary, freestone talks about the lamented rock star’s final years. “he was ill but i never thought he would actually die. I suppressed it till the very last moment.” Reporter steven somers talks to freestone at symbolic locations.

The journey takes us to mercury’s london residence and heaven, the london gay nightclub that was mercury’s hunting ground in the early 80s. The interview ends in montreux, mercury’s safe haven where he decided to stop his aids treatment in 1991.
